According to The Seattle P-I, King County Councilmember Dow Constantine will announce Monday that he is running for the King County Executive position being vacated by Ron Sims, who has been nominated for a post in President Obama’s new administration.

Constantine, who has served as a councilman since 2002, joins fellow Councilman Larry Phillips as the only candidates who have formally declared their intentions to seek King County’s top job.

He currently represents District 8, which includes Burien White Center, West Seattle and Vashon Island.

  1. Hey, b-townblog, you first slam the P-I. You come across as arrogant. Then, you steal P-I reporting by linking to a story that you could have reported on your own. Or did you have to wait for the P-I to report it? From the looks of it, you're on your way to some quality reporting that you can call your own. Not much heavy lifting. Or thinking or working on your own. We like that. You have to ask whether you have the time, resources and contacts to truly break news and real investigations. All of that takes time, money and purpose. You know, the kind that major metros have done in the past. If you have that, great. If you don't, it's probably not a good idea to say one thing and do another. Americans have never liked hypocrites. Keep linking to published articles. It doesn't require much work or thought.

  3. Sorry to have offended you "Blogger," and I apologize to anyone else who thinks I come cross as arrogant.

I'd like to point out tht it's not "stealing" to attribute and link to a source for a news story – I respect, admire and subscribe to the P-I, and will be sad if/when it goes away. I have hopes that they'll work something out, and at the very least, transition to a full online publication and keep their excellent staff.

As for the rest of your comments, I guess the sarcasm font function wasn't working, but I get your point, and would like to reveal that updating this site several times per day by myself does require heavy lifting, and this has now become a full-time, volunteer gig that is a lot of fun.

  4. When you write on the P-I that, "I'll be busy reporting on my local community," and then link to an article written by the P-I, you don't come across as someone who is willing to pick up the phone and call the news source to actually try and get the information yourself. At the very least, you could email or text. If you say you're going to report on your community, it's best that you actually do that. It helps build crediblity. The point here is that if you're a one-man band, that's fine. Admit it and say you need to link to mainstream media. But it's also important to realize that a group of reporters often has the combined ability (and experience) to report, dig and break news that one full-time volunteer does not have. That's what many members of the public are missing in the debate. And if you can make money with your blog, that's good for you.

  5. You've got a good point there – I can see how I come across as a hypocrite. Oops.

I also just re-read my comment on Horsey's column and dang…what an arrogant ass I am! Geez I don't know what got in to me but I can see why so many people hate me now. Next time I just won't press the "submit" button right away…geez.

As for the one-man band thing, I'm bringing in other writers and reporters, and we even have an intern, so let's hope we can keep growing into a real staff.

And that I learn something from this entire experience.
