Puyallup What? Who needs to drive down way there when, as part of Burien’s Oktoberfest, a carnival with rides, flashing lights, cotton candy, a mini-midway and much more will be right here in B-Town, in the lot next to the Interim Art Space!

Rides open at 2pm Thursday (Sept. 24th) and run to 11pm, then again on Friday/Saturday from Noon to 11pm and Sunday Sept. 27th from Noon to 7pm.

Here are photos taken Wednesday by Scott Schaefer as workers were setting things up:

[NOTE TO ALL OVERLY-CONCERNED PARENTS: Since this is taking place at/near B/ IAS, be aware that the controversial naked female sculpture “Paradigm Shift” will be visible, so be sure to bring blindfolds.]

Were there any demonic clowns lurking around the midway? Isn’t that what you normally get at carnivals like this? Maybe I read too much Steven King and Dean Koontz.

    Hey Scott,

I just wanted to say, I don’t really care about the detailed nude woman sculpture. But the two large large ones are just UGLY. I think they could have found MUCH better artwork to adorn the grounds next to the Burien Library. Something with more color! It’s so BLAH! That’s all.

The large sculpture “The Passage” will be leaving Burien at the end of the year along with the rest of the art when the lease is up with the developer on the one acre site of private land. This art is not placed there by the city it is a year long interim art space for the community that is run by volunteers.

I for one think the art is wonderful and I will be very sad to see it leave Burien. I hope we can find some great replacement for it!
