Burien Resident Has Home Field Advantage In Miss Washington Contest
Hayley McJunkin, a Burien resident, will be competing for the title of Miss Washington this coming weekend (July 9-10) at the Highline Performing Arts Center.
Hayley attended Marvista Elementary, Sylvester Middle School, and Aviation High School, and is currently attending the University of Washington, majoring in communications.
Hayley was eligible to compete in the closest Miss America scholarship pageant, which was held in Auburn, where she was named “Miss Auburn” at the beginning of this year.
As Miss Auburn, Hayley will participate in the Miss Washington scholarship pageant where she will compete in Interview, Fitness and Evening Gown competitions on Friday, July 9th and Saturday, July 10th at the Highline Performing Arts Center in Burien.
She has been dancing since she was three years old, training at Melanie’s Dance Unlimited in Normandy Park, as well as Allegro Performing Arts Academy in Kent. She is currently a member of the UW Husky dance team. She will be performing a jazz number titled “Hit me with a hot note” as part of the talent competition.
Hayley is the daughter of Larry and Hamilton McJunkin of Bonney Lake, and Andy and Diane Ryan of Three Tree Point, where she currently resides.
The competition begins Friday night (July 9) at 7pm with the “Prelims.” “Finals” will be Saturday (July 10) at 7pm at the Highline Performing Arts Center, located at 401 South 152nd Street next to Highline High School. The Miss Washington winner will go on to the Miss America pageant that will be broadcast on ABC in January, 2011.
