Our friends at Burien Little Theatre want our Readers to know that they’re still seeking folks to audition for their upcoming “Reefer Madness: The Musical” – they need male chorus members and a woodwind player.

Chorus members will get a $100 stipend, while the woodwind player will earn $600.

The show will run Sept. 24th through Oct. 31st.

Here are the details:

Seeking male chorus members for “Reefer Madness: The Musical” at Burien Little Theatre

Burien Little Theatre is seeking two (2) male chorus members for the ensemble in “Reefer Madness: The Musical,” written by Kevin Murphy and Dan Studney. The ensemble is almost like another character in the show, much like the phantoms in “The Rocky Horror Show.” This mixed gender group, age range 20s, represents Reefer Zombies, Kids at the Five and Dime, Jungle Orgy dancers, Angels, and patriotic background chorus in the Star-Spangled finale. Strong vocal and dance skills preferred.

Synopsis: Inspired by the original 1936 film of the same name, this raucous musical comedy takes a tongue-in-cheek look at the hysteria caused when clean-cut kids fall prey to marijuana, leading them on a hysterical downward spiral filled with evil jazz music, sex and violence. The addictive and clever musical numbers range from big Broadway-style showstoppers to swing tunes like “Down at the Ol’ Five and Dime” and the Vegas-style “Listen to Jesus, Jimmy,” featuring J.C. Himself leading a chorus of showgirl angels! Reefer Madness is a highly stylized and satirical political commentary. It contains adult humor, religious parody, and drug use, as well as suggested violence and sexual explicitness. It therefore may be inappropriate for younger performers and audiences.

Performances are at Burien Little Theatre in Burien from Sept. 24 through Oct. 31, 2010 Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Rehearsals have just begun Mondays through Thursdays from 7 to 10 p.m. and Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m.

Stage director is Steve Cooper and the music director is Ann Sager.

$100 stipend provided.

Auditioners should be prepared to perform two short contrasting songs (serious/comedy, ballad/patter) and provide resume and headshot.

Here’s their notice for a woodwind player:

Auditions for woodwinds player for “Reefer Madness: The Musical”

Burien Little Theatre is now looking for an alto sax player with, ideally, additional abilities on clarinet and flute, for their fall production of the campy “Reefer Madness: The Musical,” written by Kevin Murphy and Dan Studney.

The woodwinds player will play as part of a 5-person band. The show runs Sept. 24 through Oct. 31 Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. We have just begun rehearsals with a talented cast of experienced actors with amazing voices. Band members will have limited rehearsals until the final 2 weeks before the show opens. Rehearsals will typically be at the Burien Community Center Annex, 4th Ave. S.W. and S.W. 146th St. in Burien.

$600 stipend.

For those who don’t know the show: Inspired by the 1936 cult-film classic “Reefer Madness,” this campy musical comedy “warns” of the dangers of marijuana. The tale follows our hero as he transforms from star student into murdering drug fiend. Addictive songs keep you humming for days.
