This past Friday (Aug 27) new Highline School District teachers attending orientation at the Educational Resource & Administrative Center (ERAC) in Burien were surprised by a group of visitors at their end of their day. The visit was setup by the Highline Schools Foundation for Excellence to welcome new teachers to our community.

First on the agenda was a check presentation for $2,654 by Randy Welk (Store Director) and Bettina Sopke (Human Resources) from the local Fred Meyer store. The money will be used by the Highline Schools Foundation to fund Excel Grants supporting the arts in area schools.

After accepting the check, members of the Highline Schools Foundation Board of Directors then passed out welcome boxes to approximately 25 new teachers. The boxes contained gifts and coupons contributed by thirty-five local businesses (Complete list of donors here). The sturdy cardboard boxes themselves will no doubt prove useful in classrooms!
