Students at Gregory Heights Elementary School enjoyed a very special assembly last Thursday thanks to first-grader Tycho Cabral. Tycho was the winner of the Dairy Queen Sounders FC Sweepstakes.
The SoundWave band greeted the first- and second-grade students as they filed into the assembly and then local celebrity Tony Ventrella took over as master-of-ceremonies to introduce Sounder FC players Patrick Ianni and Tyson Wahl.
Ianni and Wahl spoke with the kids about teamwork and demonstrated their ball juggling skills. Then they picked two teams of three kids and had them compete using physical drills that players use to sharpen their skills.
The assembly finished up with the presentation of a signed jersey to Gregory Heights principal Phil Robinson and then group photos for each class.
Dairy Queen, official sponsor of the 2010 Sounders FC Season, worked with the team to offer Seattle area children ages 6 -13 an opportunity to win 4 tickets to a Sounders match, VIP treatment at the match, and a Sounders assembly at their school. They received over 1,600 entries from children and their parents.
Tycho’s mother entered him to win at the local Dairy Queen at 14310 Ambaum Blvd SW.
In addition to the assembly, Tycho and his family received an autographed ball and four tickets to the Sounders FC’s regular season home finale against Chivas USA, along with four field passes and four meet-and-greet passes.
Thanks to local owner Navjot Singh of the Burien Dairy Queen for his participation in this experience for children. Congratulations to the winner, his family and the students of Gregory Heights for this once in a lifetime experience.
