On Sunday (Dec. 12th), a mudslide sent numerous pieces of a retaining wall into a home in the 2300 block of SW 172nd, near Burien’s Three Tree Point neighborhood.

According to KING5.com, firefighters helped three people out of the home. There were no injuries.

KOMO News’ report (video below) claims that the resident, a 94-year old Artist and Writer, may lose all his life’s work. His daughter, Brygida McDermott, was scheduled to spend the night with him Sunday, sleeping on a couch where the slide hit. Brygida added that engineers on scene claimed that not only was the home unlivable, but that neighbors located next to it may also have to leave.

The supports to the home are damaged, the house is leaning precariously towards the water, and the structure has been red-tagged by the city.

As we learn more about this tragedy we’ll update this post. If anyone knows the resident, we’d like to offer our help – please email us and we’ll start the wheels rolling.
