REMINDER: Nighttime Road Closures Near Sea-Tac Airport Start Tuesday
As if there isn’t enough construction going on in the area to mess with your life, now comes an update that nighttime road closures around the approach to Sea-Tac Airport will begin Tuesday, April 5th.
Originally scheduled to start March 28th, the work was temporarily postponed “due to unforeseen conflicts,” according to the Port of Seattle.
Overnight closures are scheduled for three days beginning Tuesday night, in order for crews to complete the installation of girders on the International Blvd. (SR99) bridge over SR-518. The road improvements will add a new lane to the bridge to facilitate the entrance to the new Rental Car Facility, south of Highway 518, scheduled to open in spring 2012.
The closures are scheduled to occur during overnight hours between 11 p.m. and 4:30 a.m. to lessen the impact to commuters (unless of course you’re driving at night). Three closures will allow four separate girder sections to be placed on the evenings of Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, April 5 – 7.
Vehicles will be detoured during each evening construction period. Detour routes will be marked and motorists are encouraged to use caution while traveling in the area.

More Details on Detours:
- The first closure on Tuesday evening will detour vehicles west to the Des Moines Memorial Drive interchange and routed back along eastbound SR518 to reach the airport and SR99. The loop ramp to southbound SR99 will remain closed until later this year. Traffic will access southbound SR99 off of S. 154th Street.
- The second night’s closure, Wednesday, will close both directions of SR518. Traffic will be detoured through the airport terminal drives.
- Finally, Thursday evening’s detours will close the airport exit to eastbound SR518. Traffic will be detoured to S. 170th St. and International Blvd.
