PHOTO FRIDAY: The Sun Still Rises, We Have Proof!

Just when you thought spring was turning right back into winter, Mother Nature cut us a little slack and delivered a couple of days of beautiful weather to remind us what we’ve been missing.

Unfortunately, this has just been an all too temporary respite from the cold, grayness that has become the norm lately. The forecast has us blanketed with clouds and drenched with rain again starting this weekend. Alas, it was just too good to last.

Taking advantage of the weather, BTB photographer Michael Brunk dragged himself out of bed before dawn for the last two days to shoot photos of this semi-mythical “sunrise” from the Johnson Pit #30 earthworks overlooking the Kent valley.

Although even we feel photos are a poor substitute for the real thing, if you put your face really close to your monitor you might feel just a little bit of warmth on your face even when it’s chilly and wet outside again.

Michael, these are stunning. I love the lighting on the second shot, especially. Definitely worth an early morning to get that one! Awesome work, really.
