PHOTOS: Scenes From Dedication Ceremony At Steve Cox Memorial Park

The memorial dedication for King County Sheriff’s Deputy Steve Cox, killed in the line of duty on December 2, 2006, was held Sunday afternoon (May 15) at Steve Cox Memorial Park in White Center.

At the time of his death, Cox served as President of the North Highline Unincorporated Area Council. The NHUAC led the community effort to rename the park for Deputy Cox and the fundraising to install a memorial. Artist Jay Haavik designed and built the stone memorial.

Sunday also happened to be ‘National Peace Officers Memorial Day,’ as designated by President Kennedy in 1962.

Numerous local dignitaries, police officers, family members and citizens crowded around the memorial as it was unveiled.

The permanent memorial is located in Steve Cox Memorial Park, located at 1321 SW 102nd Street, and is available for viewing anytime.
