B-TOWN BIZ: Burien’s Infusion Tea & Coffee Brews Its Last Cup, Closes
Just over a year after first opening, Infusion Tea & Coffee, located at 15607 1st Ave South in Burien, has brewed its last cup and closed, and a new business called “Balloons And Cupcakes” will be opening in its place.
According to a sign on the front door, the new store will open “hopefully the first weekend in May.” Unless they’ve got a time machine as well as balloons and cupcakes, that has yet to happen.
From what we can tell, this business also has a location at 22307 Marine View Drive South in Des Moines.
On Monday afternoon (May 23rd), it appeared that all of Infusion’s espresso equipment had been removed from inside the cafe, leaving behind only the fixtures and furniture:
Here’s a note posted on their Facebook Page on Monday (May 23rd):
Infusion opened in May, 2010, and according to a story we posted at the time:
“Within the brightly-colored walls you can get some work done using their free Wi-Fi, play backgammon, checkers or chess on any of the number of boards they have throughout the shop. In the chilly summer evenings customers will be able to cozy up next to their 360-degree fireplace in large cushy chairs. The walls will be adorned with work by local artists and starting in June, they’ll feature local musicians with a slower to moderate tempo to help create a relaxing and entertaining atmosphere.”
At the time of their opening, they served Stumptown coffee, along with pastries from Alki Bakery.
Before learning of their closing, we heard that they had changed their name to the Juxtapose Cafe, but according to that Facebook Page, they’re closed as well:
Since we were unable to reach the current proprietors, we can only guess that the rough economy, and perhaps a less-than-desirable location that lacked a serious infusion of customers may be the reason for the closure.
