We just ran into Tour de Friends Organizer John Nelson at the Wild Strawberry Festival, and found out that Friday night’s fundraiser for Burien’s Para Los Niños, considered a success, had one glitch – the Alaskan Amber tour bike didn’t get raffled off.

“Only two people showed up for the drawing,” Nelson said. “So we didn’t do the raffle – but we’re going to hold a do-over on Wednesday night, June 22nd at 7 p.m. at Mick Kelly’s.”

Nelson says that entrants need NOT be present to win.

Mick Kelly’s Irish Pub is located at 435 SW 152nd Street.

The date, time and place of the drawing had already been announced, and that you must be present to win. People did show up for the drawing. Why was it cancelled? What if three people had showed up, or seven, or ten? Where do you draw the line for cancelling a publicly announced raffle drawing? If people didn’t show up then they were not interested in the prize.

    • Actually, there was not a rule that you had to be present to win (though I understand that the earliest registrants were misinformed about this, sorry first time event snafu. They posted a sign afterwards). Since this was a family event, we didn’t feel it was fair to force families to stick around until 10pm so that they’d have to ride home with there kids after dark. Good news is that we came together and raised $1300 for chairty, solely on the backs of volunteers. I hope you’ll consider doing it again next year.
