On Friday (June 24th), we reported about the King County Sheriff’s Office investigating the death of a man in the 12600 block of Des Moines Memorial Drive in the Boulevard Park area.
Now comes news that police discovered most of the victim’s property stashed away inside the home of his immediate neighbor.
The victim, Leonard A. Werner, 69, an Air Force veteran, lived alone, and was last seen by family members about two weeks ago.
Police say that the man’s niece came to check on him on Friday, only to find him deceased, laying under a blanket on the floor, with his entire house ransacked. The man’s two cars were stolen as well:
- A blue, 2002 Dodge Ram Pickup, WA license # B40611K
- A gold, 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser, WA license # 515TPM)
Detectives say that everything from large appliances to fine china and family heirlooms were later discovered at the next door neighbor’s house.
The cause of Werner’s death has yet to be determined, but his niece said the Air Force veteran deserved more dignity than to have thieves stepping over his body as they stole his property.
“I’m pretty angry that someone would do that to someone that we love,” she said to KOMO News.
Sgt. John Urquhart says the neighbors who were discovered with Werner’s stolen items are currently under investigation for theft.
