B-TOWN BIZ: King Buffet ‘Closed For Renovations’? Or Is It ‘For Lease’?

BTB Reader Leo tipped us to this one – longtime Burien all-you-can-eat Chinese restaurant King Buffet, located at 137 SW 160th Street, is either ‘Closed for Renovations,’ or ‘For Lease,’ depending on which sign you believe.

A large “Closed” sign was visible in one window, while in others there were hot pink “For Lease” signs.

On the front door, a hand-written sign read:

“Sorry we closed.

We do renovation.

Management, King Buffet”

Calls to the restaurant’s listed phone number resulted in a “Sorry, this voice mailbox is full…” recording.

We finally got an answer though, after we called the number listed under the “For Lease” sign – we reached the building’s private landlord, a woman who didn’t want to be identified, who said:

“I guess the current owner just wasn’t getting enough business…”

She also added that the current owner operated King Buffet “for about five years.”

Publisher/Editor Scott Schaefer dropped by to take some pics, and confirmed that yes, all the doors are locked, the parking lot empty, there is no evidence of any renovations taking place, and despite chairs and tables still standing inside, the joint is definitely closed:

King Buffet's battered awning and sign have seen better days.

Mops seemingly stand guard outside the locked back door.

Competing signs on the front door tell a confusing story.

  1. Get a clue burien city council says:

    Damn funny sign

  2. Kathy says:

They hardly had any business for quite a while. The parking lot was always empty or just a few cars and those could have been employee cars.

  3. VERY TIRED says:

Considering it was awful 5 years ago, that degree of quality must have been maintained to warrant this eventuality. Hopefully a real buffet can get in there and get some business.

Thanks Scott for checking it out…
