Last Friday night, if you wondered what all the hubbub was going on around Burien Italian restaurant Osteria da Primo, we have the answer – former Secretary of Defense (he served that role twice, once under Gerald Ford and again under George W. Bush) Donald Rumsfeld ate dinner there.
It’s not often we get international political celebs dining in B-Town, and here’s more from Primo Proprietor Lindsay White:

On Friday evening we noticed that traffic was blocked outside of our business, Osteria da Primo located on the 600 block of 152nd SW.  We were too busy to investigate what at first glance seemed to be an undercover police car stopped in the middle of the road.  A man then got out of the car and we noticed he was not dressed in a police uniform at all, it became clear something else was going on.  One of our customers was outside waiting for a table and flagged me over, she said ” Something is going on out here, there must be someone important in that car for there to be a security detail.”  I thought nothing of it and went on my way, then another of our customers called me over and said, “Look, that is Donald Rumsfeld getting out of that car.”  Having grown up in Burien I was not prepared to see a politician of that level walking down the street, and I was even more surprised when he walked through the doors into our restaurant.  He joined another table that was waiting for him and enjoyed a quiet dinner at Osteria da Primo.
Apparently he was in Seattle on a book tour and ended up coming to Burien to join a friend for dinner at our restaurant.  Politics aside, it was quite an honor to have someone who so drastically changed the course of our nation’s history in our little corner of the world.

  1. Interesting, but NOT politics aside. Politics is what did drastically change the course of our nation’s history. I’m glad you had the business, but he’s dangerous still.

  2. Oh great, just what Burien needs – a wanted WAR CRIMINAL blocking traffic on 152nd!
I wonder if Primo served him any apps on a Waterboard?

  3. He is a true American hero. I wish I could have seen him and thanked him for his service to our country.
Not everybody in the greater Seattle area is a crazy, deluded liberal.

    1. True american hero???!!! You certainly are not showing any ‘Independent’ thinking.
Fox news must have told you what to think about him.

  4. I can’t tell you the use of force in Iraq will last 5 weeks or 5 months , but it won’t be any longer then that.

  5. Nice to see the drones are out in force. Politics aside, my eye.
Mr. Rumsfeld served this country with distinction. He did what he had to do with the resources he had. He’s not a war criminal, and to say that makes you look like a buffoon. If he’s a war criminal, then so was FDR, Harry Truman, JFK, Nixon, Clinton, and numerous other leaders and associates we have had over the years. I am incredibly sickened, and saddened by people who hate their country so much that they would take the side of the enemy, because that is what you are doing. What would you have him do…sit in a circle and sing Kumbaya with Al Qaeda?
Seriously, if this is the way that people in Burien actually think, there is no hope for this country.

    1. One of the central tenets of Al Qaeda’s jihadist ideology is that secular Muslim rulers and their regimes have oppressed the believers and plunged Islam into a theologic crisis. Hence, a paramount goal of Islamist revolutionaries for almost half a century has been the destruction of the regimes of such leaders as Presidents Gamal Abdel Nasser, Anwar el-Sadat and Hosni Mubarak of Egypt, President Hafez al-Assad of Syria, the military government in Algeria and even the Saudi royal family. To jihadists, Saddam Hussein was just another in a long line of dangerous secularists, an enemy of the faith who refuses to rule by Shariah and has habitually murdered Sunni and Shiite religious leaders in Iraq who might oppose his regime. Rumsfeld was fully aware of this fact, and yet he sent in a force that had no problem with crushing Saddams military, but his folly was beliving that Bremer and his Coalition Provisional Authority would smooth things out. When was the last time you saw Paul Bremer? With what we have spent on an ujust military disater, we could ALL go on congressional health insurance…

    2. VERY TIRED I don’t believe you are serious. I remember some of your other comments on simmular subjects and they were interested at best, but this comment is rediculous. I know you don’t really think a Secretary Of Defense who presided over two wars that killed over 6,000 US solders and seriously wounded over 30,000 more, along with spending trillions of dollars on no-bids contracts to a contracting company that the Vice President once held a position on the board of directors. You wanta come clean, you just can’t be that empty headed, tell us you are kidding.
