With the air temp around 53 degrees, it was a very mild, sunny New Year’s Day in Burien Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012, when some 40+ locals braved the chilly waters of Puget Sound to participate in the annual ‘Polar Bear Plunge’ at Three Tree Point.

Defending plunge champ Bart Bryan was there of course, jumping in with everyone else while wearing the exclusive B-Town Blog Waterproof Point-Of-View Splash Cam.

Here’s a video of today’s wacky event as shot and edited by Scott Schaefer, with help from Bart, Patricia Schaefer, former Sales Diva Janet Grella, Photographer Michael Brunk and a cast of 40+ (be sure to try and watch full-screen at 720p for best viewing experience):

Looks like my child and I stayed in as long as most people did 😉

If I would have known that Ian and Michael were taking the plunge, I might have thought about doing it. On second thought forget it, it’s just too stinking cold. Congratulations to all the “polar bears” who were brave enough (and crazy enough) to start off their year doing something exciting.
