New Start High science teacher Bev Mowrer is in need of some used, empty propane tanks for a music project, and we’re putting the word out to all BTB Readers to see if anyone can help.
“We are looking for anything that can withstand our Pacific Northwest weather and could be made into a musical instrument,” Mowrer said. “Iron pipe is definitely needed, so are treated posts if anyone has some sitting around not being used.”
Here’s a video Bev sent us that gives an idea of what the tanks will be used for:
- All sizes are needed, from small to large.
- Tanks are needed as “soon as we can get them,” Bev said.
- Tanks can be dropped off at the New Start High School science room, or Bev will pick them up if needed.
- Others helping with this project include Lee Moyer, Dale Copeland and John Feeney, who are assisting students in building the station.
New Start High School is located at 614 SW 120th Street in Burien; 206-631-7750.

That is a great sounding instrument! Perhaps they could be installed under the broken jungle gym in the Town Square park?
The small propane torch tanks make very good wind chimes.
