Local teen author Marta Stahlfeld, creator of Darkwoods (read our previous coverage of here here), will be speaking to students at Burien’s Sylvester Middle School this Friday, March 23.

Stahlfeld will focus on her experiences of writing and self-publishing her novel, the future of eBooks versus traditional books, and the value of reading and writing regularly.

Stahlfeld started writing Darkwoods at age 12, and released the book last April when she was seventeen years old. Darkwoods is the first book in an epic fantasy series for middle school/young adult readers. Now a senior in high school, Stahlfeld has already completed the second book in the series, Pasadagavra, and hopes to release it later this year.

All the Darkwoods characters are animals. Upon the death of their leading Oracle, the Darkwoods Foxes become determined to take over the world, while the rest of the animals including mice, squirrels, and otters try to stop them. Princess Zuryzel, a Wraith Mouse (a magical mouse that can turn invisible at night) is called upon to help lead her kingdom’s army against the Darkwoods Foxes. As the war rages on, Zuryzel realizes that someone is spying on her kingdom for the foxes, and she works hard to discover who the traitor is.

Interested students will be able to purchased an inscribed copy of the book from Stahlfeld on Friday for $16.00.

Darkwoods is also available at Burien Books.
