“Pack your bags!” was the phrase Carolyn Hart heard over the phone from Laurie Haslund Tuesday afternoon, shortly after her name was drawn as the winner of a fundraiser raffle held by Burien Arts .
“Is this a joke?” Hart asked, but the answer was a resounding “No!” – Hart won two tickets to anywhere Alaska Airlines flies in the raffle (rumor has it she’ll be traveling to Hawaii), which served as a fundraiser for the local arts organization.
Approximately 170 tickets were sold out of a possible 200, at $25 apiece, raising over $4,250 for Burien Arts.
The winning ticket was drawn by BTB Publisher/Editor Scott Schaefer on the back deck of Burien Press (sister media venture SoKing Internet Radio served as a Sponsor of the Highline Classic Jazz Festival last month).
On hand at the ceremony were Burien Arts board President Linda Dougherty, along with VP John Unbehend (who took the photos), Lance Haslund, Treasurer, Sybil Davis, Secretary, Laurie Haslund, Member at Large, Janet Grella, Volunteer, and Scott’s wife, Theresa Schaefer.
The drawing was so popular that tickets were being sold up until just a few minutes before the drawing.
