New Youth Development Group ‘P.O.W.!’ Helps LGBTQ Community in Burien
P.O.W.! is a new youth development group in Burien which fosters lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning (LGBTQ) and allied youth between the ages 13 and 21, and they meet every Wednesday from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. for leadership, support and advocacy.
“We foster friendships and support while working on a community activist project, such as promoting LGBTQ awareness in South King County,” reads an announcement. “P.O.W.! provides a safe space to offer support and resources, combat bullying, and provide leadership skills for LGBTQ and allied youth. P.O.W.! group meetings include topics such as gender, sexuality, sex, relationships, family, religion, media, sports, role models, bullying, depression, suicide, homophobia, and much more. The topics are youth-inspired and the activist project is led by the youth. The current project is making a mini promotional video to represent P.O.W.!”
P.O.W.! has a Facebook page and encourages everyone to “like” it here: www.facebook.com/proudoutwonderful
