Highline Schools Foundation Screening ‘Speaking In Tongues’ Tuesday Night

The Highline Schools Foundation is presenting a documentary film called “Speaking in Tongues” starting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8 at Mount View Elementary School.

“At a time when 31 states have passed “English Only” laws, four pioneering families put their children in public schools where, from the first day of kindergarten, their teachers speak mostly Chinese or Spanish,” reads an announcement.

“Speaking in Tongues” follows four diverse kids on a journey to become bilingual.

“This charming story will challenge you to rethink the skills that Americans need in the 21st century.”

The Highline School District and Highline Schools Foundation are partnering to present information about dual language programs to our community for discussion and feedback, and are asking the question:

How could Highline Public Schools benefit from expanded dual language programming?

After the screening of the documentary “Speaking in Tongues,” there will be a post-film discussion facilitated by district staff and hosted by the Foundation.
