ChoralSounds Northwest will be ‘Rockin’ the Boat’ this weekend at the Highline Performing Arts Center, with two shows – Saturday, May 12 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 13 at 2 p.m.

On Sunday, they’re having a very special Mother’s Day deal – tickets are just $10 each – and are available at the door for the Sunday show. Just show up at the box office, which opens at 1 p.m.; and be sure to tell ’em you read about it on The B-Town Blog.

“In ‘Rockin’ the Boat,’ Artistic Director Brian Winnie takes ChoralSounds and the audience on a chronological voyage of discovery into some of the great music of stage and screen,” according to an announcement.

Examining the vast differences between songs originally written for chorus and songs that were always intended as solo numbers, Rockin’ the Boat includes many of the great choruses from stage and screen. Including everything from Mozart’s Dies Irae (Amadeus) and John Williams’ Duel of Fates (Star Wars: Phantom Menace) to Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd and the brilliant 21 Guns (American Idiot), this will be a show you won’t want to miss!

Under Brian’s direction, ChoralSounds NW has refocused its energy on developing polished choral performance, and this program will give the audience the opportunity to hear the fruits of that effort. Of course, no CSN concert would be complete without moments of silliness, and Brian has some surprises up his sleeve as we celebrate music’s gifts to movies and theater.
