Suspect in Tuesday’s Amber Alert Charged by King County Prosecutor’s Office
On Friday (May 25), the King County Prosecutor’s Office filed four charges against Michael Riley III, 23, accused of confronting his ex-girlfriend in the parking lot of the Burien Library, then stealing her car with Riley’s 7-month-old son and her 2-year-old son inside, triggering Tuesday’s Amber Alert (read our extensive coverage here).
Prosecutors charged Riley with Kidnapping Second Degree for allegedly abducting the woman’s son, Felony Violation of a No Contact Order, Taking a Motor Vehicle Without Permission Second Degree, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm Second Degree.
His ex-girlfriend had just pulled in to the parking lot of the Burien Library when Riley confronted her and tried to hit her. After she exited the car, Riley jumped in and drove away with the kids.
He was located a short time later in the Gregory Heights neighborhood, and the kids were found safe in the car.
Riley remains in jail on $400,000 bail.
Arraignment is scheduled for June 5 at 9 a.m. at the Norm Maleng Regional Justice Center.
