A Burien woman has been charged with domestic violence after nearly starving her newborn baby to death and neglecting her two-year-old daughter, police said.

Court documents say that Katherine Amanda Mattern, 23, is accused of ‘withholding the basic necessities of life’ from her seven-week-old son, Liam Alexander Lee.

The seven-week-old boy was mistreated by Mattern between March 30 – April 17, according to court documents.

Reports are that the victim was denied food for such a long time that, without medical intervention, “he would not have survived the deprivation of food for much longer.”

Mattern had been previously investigated by Child Protective Services while she was living in Oregon with her 2-year-old, before she ended up in Burien.
