A Burien woman has been charged with domestic violence after nearly starving her newborn baby to death and neglecting her two-year-old daughter, police said.

Court documents say that Katherine Amanda Mattern, 23, is accused of ‘withholding the basic necessities of life’ from her seven-week-old son, Liam Alexander Lee.

The seven-week-old boy was mistreated by Mattern between March 30 – April 17, according to court documents.

Reports are that the victim was denied food for such a long time that, without medical intervention, β€œhe would not have survived the deprivation of food for much longer.”

Mattern had been previously investigated by Child Protective Services while she was living in Oregon with her 2-year-old, before she ended up in Burien.
