Will 2012 mark a new “Summer of Love?”

Most Jazz fans and Non-Jazz fans are at least vaguely familiar with the distinctive guitar and “gypsy” Jazz sounds of Django Rheinhardt and Stephane Grappelli. The somewhat twangy and deeply-resonant sound instantly conjures images of Paris nights and smokey “Boites de Nuit” of a vintage era. The sound is undeniably romantic.

While drawing from that inspiration, local quintet “Pearl Django” has developed a repertoire that is still strongly influenced by Django Rheindart, but also includes many original compositions.

This local talent is now entering their 17th year of performing and has risen from their Tacoma roots to boast performance highlights in numerous jazz festivals nationwide and in France. Now is your chance to be romanced by their singular sound in your own backyard. Pearl Django will open the inaugural show in the “Jazz on the Lawn” Concert series on Friday, July, 6 at the beautiful Cedarbrook Lodge in SeaTac.

As the title of the series suggests, the concerts will be staged, weather permitting on Cedarbrook’s lush Evergreen Lawn. From 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM guests can enjoy the music with a selection of gourmet small plates and local wines and beers available from Copperleaf’s cash bar.

Tickets for this and all concerts in the series are available from Brown Paper tickets and are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. Additionally, those interested in attending all performances can purchase admission to four concerts and receive the fifth free.

With lilting Gypsy Jazz to transport the imagination, gourmet cuisine and local wines to delight the palette, and a verdant  Pacific Northwest landscape to surround the senses, this could be the start of a new Summer of Love.
