Rotary Club of Burien/White Center Installs Julie Nelson as New President

Last Thursday, June 21, the Rotary Club of Burien/White Center installed Julie Nelson as its 58th President.

Previous club presidents Barbara Maurer, Chuck Cox, Helen Clement, Tony Sims, Rick Jump and immediate past president Bob Wray, Jr. presented the gavel to Julie in a short ceremony:

Bob received a plaque and pin to thank him for his service to Rotary and the community this year.

The new International theme for 2012-2013 is, “Peace Through Service”.

Club members look forward to assisting at the Burien Independence Day parade, then moving forward with service projects such as providing dictionaries and warm winter clothing to elementary students, financial contributions to worthy non-profits in the community, scholarships for high school students, and the Highline Music4Life musical instrument donation initiative.

Current international projects include text books and computers for students in Guatemala, teacher education in India, and eradication of polio world-wide. The Burien/White Center Rotary Club meets Thursdays at noon at Angelo’s in Burien.

The Burien White Center Rotary Club has been helping the communities of Burien and White Center for a half of a century.
