REMINDER: Burien’s Independence Day Parade Starts at 3 p.m.; Look for Us!
The 91st Annual Burien Independence Day Parade will kick-off at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, July 4, starting at Ambaum Blvd. SW and SW 149th Street, and will feature your original B-Town Bloggers (look for us with the Discover Burien team and the classic “Miss Burien” hydro – we’ll be handing out Coupons!), marching bands, dance teams, floats, vintage autos and yes – even Ronald McDonald on a Segway!
And we just learned that both candidates for Washington Governor – Rob McKenna and Jay Inslee – will also be marching (let’s hope they’re not marching too close to one another, or we could witness an impromptu debate).
This year, the Grand Marshal of the Burien Independence Day Parade is John Feeney, recipient of the Burien “Citizen of the Year” award. He is a mentor in Highline’s New Start program, as well as a volunteer at several elementary school reading programs. John will be joined by several of his reading students in the parade.
Presented by the City of Burien and the Southwest King County Chamber of Commerce (we’re members), this homegrown event has gained a reputation as one of the most enjoyable and spirited community parades in the region.
Local community members will recognize familiar faces among the many organizations and elected representatives that participate. The parade is set against the charming backdrop of Downtown Burien, which features a diverse mix of business, retail and restaurants, along with the central landmarks of Burien Town Square and City Hall. Everyone is invited to come and be a part of this longstanding Burien tradition.
The Weather Peeps are calling for “Mostly sunny, with a high near 65″ so it should be NICE!
The parade begins at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, July 4, 2012, at Ambaum Blvd. SW and SW 149th Street. The route will head south on Ambaum, east on SW 153rd, north on 4th Ave. SW, then west on SW 152nd.
The Burien Independence Day Parade is sponsored by the Boeing Company, the Burien/White Center Rotary Club, Highline Amateur Radio Club, Highline Medical Center, CleanScapes, Republic Services, and Seahurst Dental Design/Jim Coleman, DDS. Partners for this event are the City of Burien and the Southwest King County Chamber of Commerce. Media Partner is South King Media.
