Back in June we first posted a request from our friends at Burien Parks, who were seeking Volunteers to assist with a new mural installation on the side of the Dollar Tree store on 4th Ave SW at SW 151st Street.

On Tuesday, scraping of the building continued into its second day with lots of elbow grease expended by Artist Augustina Droze, as well as spur-of-the-moment Volunteers Zach Johns and Richard Males.

Johns and Males said they both volunteered earlier this afternoon, when they happened to be walking by and asked Droze if she needed any help.

VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDED
If you can help, contact the Augustina directly by phone at (312) 848-1050, or email.

Check out the Photos taken by Scott Schaefer showing their work in progress Tuesday, as they scrape years of paint off this building (click images to see larger version/slideshow):

Droze told The B-Town Blog that pressure washing will start Wednesday (July 18) and primer will be painted on Thursday (July 19).

We’ll be posting updates of the progress of this ambitious new mural project, so stay tuned…

I like the depiction of the mural it will be a welcome addition to the downtown area.. I am not an artist but it does seem that the red and yellow object in the middle of the mural seems to clash with the overall flow of the rest of the picture.

Augustina has painted murals all over the US and globally. What great good fortune that she has designed a mural especially for Burien. I appreciate that these community volunteers who are hard at work alongside the artist are being recognized by the B-Town blog.
