Farmers Market Vendor Spotlight: Meet Greg Fox, Maker of Wooden Pens & More
This week’s Vendor Spotlight from the Burien Farmers Market is about an ‘old-timer’ – Greg Fox – who not only handcrafts his own wooden ink pens, bowls, bottle stoppers and other crafts, he also seems to always have a snappy remark to share with fellow vendors.
Greg’s been making and selling things made of wood at various markets for the last four years, and can also be found at the Des Moines, Auburn and Kent farmers markets.
In addition to specialized pens made from 45 different types of wood, some of the more interesting items Greg has for sale today include a bottle-stopper pen with a corkscrew built into it, pens made out of bullet shells, handmade salt and pepper shakers and a customized bowl with a “captive ring.”
Greg makes everything by hand, and often has customers bring him pieces of wood to create customized pens. One recent day someone brought him a branch from an Arizona grapefruit tree, which he used to craft a beautiful pen, which is for sale today.
“I was given a lathe for Christmas in 2007,” Greg told us. “I’ve taken a few classes, but am basically self-taught.”
Greg Fox can be found at almost every Burien Farmers Market, or via phone at (206) 878-0130 and email email@example.com.
