Do we have some future Olympians in our midst?

A relay team of four young ladies from Gregory Seahurst Swim Club (BTB Advertiser) is close to breaking an All-City record for the 200 yard Medley Relay.

At a preliminary meet on Monday, Reva Zacharias (backstroke), Angela Gagliardo (breaststroke), Sami Robbins (butterfly) and Emily Zacharias (freestyle) qualified for Southern Division finals (the semi-finals of summer swimming) with the time of 1:58.22. That time puts them very close to the All City Record of 1:56.80 set back in 2003 by a team from Kent.

Making this story even more compelling is the ages of the girls participating – R. Zacharias, Gagliardo, and Robbins are all 14 – but Emily Zacharias, the little sister of Reva, is only 11.

“Yes, she’s that fast,” said Gregory Seahurst Head Coach Mike Fosberg. “Emily can definitely hold her own with the older girls – she is a force to be reckoned with.”

Southern Division finals will be held at Kent Swim and Tennis Club on Thursday, Aug. 3, with an exact replica of a meet, Northern Division finals, happening in the North end at the same time.

Swimming events with top six times between the South and the North will advance to All City Finals, scheduled for next Tuesday, Aug. 7 at 4 p.m. at Arbor Heights Swim Club in White Center.

Gregory Seahurst Swim Club is located at 16700 19th Ave SW in Burien. More info at their website here.
