The King County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that a 26-year old Kent man was shot in the neck after an altercation with another man in a convenience store parking lot in Burien Tuesday night.

The incident occurred at Andy’s Handy Mart, located on SW 160th Street near First Ave South (map below) around 11:30 p.m..

Police were dispatched to a report of a fight and shots being fired in the parking lot of the store. When police arrived they found evidence of a shooting but the subjects involved had left.

Witnesses told police that two men had been fighting in the parking lot as a group of individuals watched. At some point during the fight handguns were pulled and there was an exchange of gunfire.

Shortly after police arrived at the scene they were notified that a shooting victim had been dropped off at the nearby Highline Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the neck. The victim was transferred to Harborview Medical Center and is in serious condition.

Investigators do not know what led up to the incident and are unable to get information from the shooting victim at this time.

If you live across the street, then you may be one of the people who cross SW 160th ST illegally to the mart. It is so dangerous to jay-walk. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve witnessed tenants from that apartment complex running or walking across the street in heavy traffic and sometimes with kids.

Has anyone else been hearing what sounds like a gunshot almost every night in this area of Burien? Since the 4th of July my roommate and I have been (mostly) willing to attribute the nightly bang to leftover fireworks, but since a couple of them have later turned out to be actual shootings we are beginning to wonder.
