WEATHER: National Weather Service Issues ‘Heat Advisory’ for this Weekend

You know that summer has finally really hit when the National Weather Service issues a ‘Heat Advisory,’ so enjoy your hot weekend, but be careful.

Temps are predicted to climb into the upper 80s to mid-90s this weekend, perfect for getting out and having some (careful) summer fun.

Here’s what the weather peeps are saying:

…HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FOR MUCH OF THE PUGET SOUND REGION AND THE SOUTHWEST INTERIOR FROM NOON TODAY TO 8 PM PDT SUNDAY…

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN SEATTLE HAS ISSUED A HEAT ADVISORY…WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 8 PM PDT SUNDAY.

* TEMPERATURES…WILL CLIMB TO THE UPPER 80S TO MID 90S AT MANY PLACES TODAY…RESULTING IN THE WARMEST DAY SO FAR THIS YEAR. OVERNIGHT TEMPERATURES WILL ALSO BE MILD AND WILL MAINLY BE IN THE UPPER 50S TO MID 60S. IT WILL BE A FEW DEGREES HOTTER AT MOST PLACES ON SUNDAY…WITH HIGHS TOPPING OUT IN THE LOWER TO MID 90S AT MANY PLACES.

* IMPACTS…THE HOT SPELL WILL LURE MANY TO AREA LAKES AND RIVERS THIS WEEKEND. IF YOU PLAN TO BE IN OR NEAR OPEN WATER…BE WATER SAFE AND WEAR A LIFE JACKET.

* SOME AFFECTED LOCATIONS…SEATTLE…NORTH BEND…OLYMPIA…BREMERTON…AND CHEHALIS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTION IF YOU WORK OR SPEND TIME OUTSIDE. WHEN POSSIBLE…RESCHEDULE STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES TO EARLY MORNING OR EVENING. KNOW THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT STROKE. WEAR LIGHT WEIGHT AND LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING WHEN POSSIBLE AND DRINK PLENTY OF WATER.

TO REDUCE RISK DURING OUTDOOR WORK…THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS SCHEDULING FREQUENT REST BREAKS IN SHADED OR AIR CONDITIONED ENVIRONMENTS. ANYONE OVERCOME BY HEAT SHOULD BE MOVED TO A COOL AND SHADED LOCATION. HEAT STROKE IS AN EMERGENCY. CALL 9 1 1.
