PHOTOS: Some Scenes from Tuesday’s ‘National Night Out’ in Burien

From Brett Fish comes this update and photos from his experience at Tuesday’s “National Night Out”:

Neighborhoods through the northwest joined forces with their respective Police Departments to get to know each other better, discuss crime issues in their neighborhoods and just plain party.

This Neighborhood Watch group at 8th Ave. SW & Sylvester Road has many thanks for the incredible efforts of the Normandy Park Police with assistance from the Burien Police Department, King County and many others for taking a big bite out of crime. Our Police Departments really answered the call, stepped up and really took our issues seriously. We are so pleased with their support particularly in a time of really City tight budgets.

Getting to know your neighbors and what is normal for your area are the best things you can do. What better way than to hold a block party, have games for the kids and compare notes, invite the Police, and make new friends. This group had a “best dessert” contest, the award won by Cindy Oliver for her fresh fruit sticks. This photographer had more than his share!

From Aileen Sison comes this pic of Tuesday night’s “National Night Out,” of which she says:

“Here’s ours in White Center, the view point on 22nd Ave SW and SW 110th Streets.”

From BTB Reader Pat Westbrook comes this first-hand report in Burien:

Tuesday evening (Aug. 7), neighbors on 2nd Ave SW in Burien gathered for ice cream and conversation.

Roger and Chris host this annual get together at 135th street for Neighborhood Watch Night Out Against Crime.

It is a great time for new and old neighbors to meet and catch up on personal, community and even pet events.

And in communities where people know each other, criminal activity is more likely to be prevented or noticed and reported.

The high point of this gathering was a visit by local fire department and sheriff officers complete with hook and ladder truck and squadcar.

The youngsters especially enjoyed the opportunity to see and speak with these special heroes.

We’re curious – did YOU participate in National Night Out? If so, please send us your report (and a pic if you’ve got one) to [email protected] [5].
