PIE JOUST: You’d Better Start Studying for the ‘Extreme Spelling Bee’ on Saturday

An innovative and fun new feature is coming to this year’s Pie Joust –  to be held this Saturday, Aug. 18 (we’re proud to be a Sponsor) – the “Extreme Spelling Bee,” an interactive and mind-stimulating opportunity that allows eliminated participants to get back in the competition.

The only catch?

They’ve got to spell a word given to them by a Spelling Ref!

Spell wrong? Sorry bud – say hello to another pie in the face!

Spell correctly? You’re back in the Pie Joust competition!

Oh, and did we mention the “extreme” part yet?

As in the old-fashioned torture devices where bad spellers (and other evildoers) would be put on display – say in a town square – and subjected to ridicule from their fellow citizens.

“This is a way for disqualified participants to get back in competition,” Organizer DB Watkins told The B-town Blog. “the referee or audience will decide when a participant was eliminated if they should get another chance.”

As part of this innovative consolation round, “Losers” will be offered the choice of quitting or going into the stocks to compete in an extreme spelling bee.

Two Hosts (Lance and Gina) will conduct a speedy spelling bee in which both contestants will get a chance to spell a word.

The first contestant to misspell a word gets a pie in the face.

The other one gets to go back into the Pie Joust competition.

And did we mention there’s going to be a Beer Garden? And that this event is a fundraiser for local charities?
