There will be a Lemonade Stand to benefit Sophia Thompson this Sunday, Aug. 19 at the West Seattle Farmer’s Market in front of Key Bank from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
There will be yummy lemonade and goodies from Bakery Nouveau.
Donations will be collected for Sophia to help her family with the cost of her cancer treatment (read our previous coverage here ).
This fundraiser is being put on by families at West Seattle Montessori School, where Sophia attends.
The West Seattle Farmers Market is located in the heart of the West Seattle Junction at 44th Ave SW & SW Alaska Street.
Sophia has been diagnosed with a rare form of soft tissue cancer called “rhabdymosarcoma” behind her right eye.
“There are only 350 cases of this type of cancer diagnosed each year,” said Andrea Reay, who’s helping to organize a fundraiser. “The chemo is making her feel awful and last week she had to get a feeding tube as she is losing weight. She is normally a very happy, spunky little girl, and this battle is very hard for her.”
Reay adds that Sophie is her parents’ only child, and that they love her dearly.
But they also need $25,000 to help Sophia’s battle, and that’s why Reay has set up a fundraiser website at www.gofundme.com/Sophia . As of Monday, July 23 they have raised $400 – to help out, click this link and donate online.
“We are starting this site in hope of helping her family with all the additional expenses they are accruing. With no family in the area, one parent needs to be with her at all times, and one income is not enough to get through the coming months. We hope that this site will give the family the ability to focus on Sophia without worrying about their finances. Please keep Sophia in your thoughts and prayers.”
