In front of around 200 or so fans, some crazier than others (hello beer garden!), the 2nd annual Pie Joust took place Saturday (Aug. 18) at Burien Town Square Park, and this year’s champion is Brooks Stanfield.
Second place went to John Lasswell, aka “The B-Town Bomber.”
Stanfield, winner of the city’s 2011 Environmental Leader award and local bike advocate, out-pied Lasswell, who we last saw in the kitchen of Empty Bowls, making soup.
The Pie Joust serves as a fundraiser that benefits WABI, Cove to Clover and the Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance.
One of the non-competitive highlights of the day was when city council member Jack Block Jr. stuck his head inside a wooden knight structure and received many pies in the face at $5 a pop, after “threatening” children with raising taxes on candy.
Organized by DB Watkins of Realty West, additional sponsors included The B-Town Blog, Discover Burien, Alaska Brewing, Vino Bello, Bicycles West and Burien Parks.
Photog Michael Brunk took tons of pics, and Scott Schaefer shot some great GoPro video, both of which will be posted soon.
