Take A Virtual Tour Of Burien’s New Mural

BTB’s photographer Michael Brunk documented the newly completed mural adorning the 4th Avenue SW side of Burien’s Dollar Tree store this past Thursday evening.

The long mural by artist Augustina Droze stretches the length of the building and required nine photos to capture all of the nuances in high resolution.

After hand stitching the images together in Photoshop, we had a really big, really wide photo that captured the mural in great detail but was rather hard to view online.

We decided to investigate creating a sort of “virtual tour” of the mural and with a little research we came up with a solution.

We’ve tested this on most of the modern web browsers and the iPhone and iPad. If you have problems viewing the tour, please let us know.

Click to view the virtual tour

Once the tour loads, you can click and drag left and right (or use your finger on a touch screen) to move the viewpoint back and forth along the mural.

Very Nice! I like it. Impressive montage of concepts, ideas, history and local beauty.

Can’t view virtual tour on our MacBook Pro on Safari Browser. Version MAC 10.8

    • Hi Laurie,

That’s pretty much the configuration I built the virtual tour on, although I used an iMac instead of a Macbook. Works fine in Safari on OSX 10.8 here so it may be something unique to your configuration. The only thing the tour uses is JScript so if scripting is turned off in your browser it won’t work.

    • Great job on the big panorama tour, Michael. And seeing the mural this way makes it even more personal, at a smaller scale. I see colors that Augustina used that I didn’t notice when looking at the mural itself. Thanks for doing this for all of us.

Michael you did an excellent job on this panoramic tour. It looks absolutely gorgeous on my Apple iPad. Is there any way I can save this on it?

Looks great! Far better than a blank wall but I think it should have been an old steam train bringing people to and from Seattle near Old Burien.
