The Burien Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department would like to thank all the amazing businesses and volunteers who helped make the 2012 mural project a success. The mural, titled “Sacred Circles” by artist Augustina Droze was completed on August 15, 2012 on the Dollar Tree wall on 4th and 151st. The mural took five weeks and over 550 volunteer hours were devoted to the project. We would like to thank:

The Dollar Tree for providing a fabulous celebration and support throughout the project, Red Eye Coffee for free coffee, Sherwin Williams for fabulous customer service and a donation of half the varnish, Burien Library for supply storage, Donna DiFiore for artist lodging, and all the amazing volunteers who helped scrape, prime, and paint, photograph, give rides, etc: Lory Newsom, Debbie Pitzer, Marina King, Zach Johns, Richard Maires, Allen Emhoff, Walter Pino, Chelsea Gibbs, Michael Contos, Jessica Sokol, Soheila Amin, Skyler Wahoski, Cindy Sockol, Jay Sockol, Rae Stacy, Paul Bailey, Debbie Thoma, Sally Irvine, Rico Most, Vivian Yamakoshi, Irene Kuniyuki, Robbie Howell, Jessica Murrietta, Angel Murrietta, Tom Pitzer, Mike Olson, Chestine Edgar, Bob Edgar, Carrie Williams, Victoria Hall, Caroline Moldovan, Meagan Pino, Bea Harris, Keila Baverlein, Erik Magnuson, Brona Shehu, Steve Siuiee, Jeff Virgin, Michael Brunk, and Virginia Wright.

The mural could not have been done without all the community support it received. And a thank you as well to the 40-50 people each day who took time during their walk or drive by the mural site to let the artist and volunteers know how much they appreciated their efforts.

  1. Thank you, all, for contributing to our community in this way!

  2. Great job to all! I watched it go up and stopped more than once to watch the artists at work. I saw them clear coating it the other day. What a neat piece of temporary artwork and a wonderful way for us to show the heart of our community to each other and guests. Wonderful!
