Local free transportation service Hyde Shuttle is seeking volunteer Drivers for its buses in Burien, Normandy Park and Des Moines.
Volunteers need to commit to four hours a day for one day per week.
“As we head into Fall, the need for senior and mobility-challenged transportation will be even more critical,” reads an announcement. “Throughout the Des Moines/Burien/Normandy Park communities, the Hyde Shuttle provides van transport to and from grocery stores, medical appointments, general shopping and entertainment venues, and places like the various Activity Centers, churches and community events. This service works because we have the best volunteer drivers, ever, and right now the Hyde Shuttle desperately needs more volunteer drivers!”

Two more drivers are needed for the Des Moines program. The Normandy Park and Burien program has been on limited runs all summer because they are also three drivers short. They have lots of citizens to serve and all it takes is four hours a day, one day a week!
You may want to visit a friend, go to lunch, take a shopping trip to a local mall or see a movie. The shuttle will pick you up at home and drop you at your destination, then return and pick you up when you need them to be there! You can stack destinations up and ride with friends or a group. There is no cost to the service, though donations are appreciated. Of course, the vans may take several people to various places during the day, so a little flexibility is required, so they can maximize their time on the route. There are some special destinations, such as the Muckleshoot Casino, that use a second van for a larger group each month.
Can you help? Do you love to drive? Do you have four hours a week to help your neighbors?
No special license is needed and full training is provided at no cost to you. There is no lifting required. All vans are lift-equipped and no transferring is required. Hours for the program are 8AM to 4PM, Monday through Friday and schedules are very flexible.
