Secily Thimsen

by Scott Schaefer
Stressed-out B-Town Parent

I don’t get massages often (enough), but when I do I like to be in the hands of a true professional – someone with amazing hands, and the talent to sense where I need to be massaged.

Secily Thimsen of BTB Advertiser Serenza Salon & Spa is just such a person.

She has “the touch,” an artful skill that can melt the stresses of kids, back-to-school, picking up the kids, homework, and did I mention back-to-school and kid-related stress? This time of year can sometimes be more stressful for a parent than a kid!

Secily has been at Serenza for almost two years now, and has been a Licensed Massage Therapist (LMP) for a bit longer.

My appointment with her was set for 11 a.m. on a recent Tuesday morning. I got there a few minutes early, filled out a short form, and was soon led into a very nice, clean, dimly-lit room with comfortable lighting and relaxing, almost zen-like, music.

Once I was on the table, Secily went to work. She started off by placing wonderfully-warm, moist towels over my back. This instantly relaxed and soothed me. And even though it was a warm summer day, I didn’t feel overheated as the room was “just right” and the air was very fresh. For someone with occasional allergies, this is important, as there’s nothing worse than sneezing while getting a massage or trying to relax.

Secily started her artistic magic by working on my feet as the warm towels melted into my back.

Once my dogs were full relaxed, she turned her attention to my shoulders and upper back. When she found (and amazingly removed) the knots in my neck and shoulders, I knew she was either psychic or just a great massage therapist – or both! Soon they disappeared from her skilled hands, melting away as if she physically removed them.

Secily then massaged my arms, legs and even my scalp, causing me to relax so much I actually heard myself starting to snore! I awoke quickly, mostly due to embarrassment, but also because I didn’t want to miss her work.

I continued to “bliss out” as she worked me over with her amazing hands.

A Burien native and Tyee High School graduate, Secily works at Serenza Tuesdays through Saturdays, and get this – she’s offering a special discount – just mention you saw this on The B-Town Blog and she’ll give you a one-hour massage with a 20% savings!

“Secily’s attention to the needs of any particular guest is what makes her so outstanding,” said Serenza Owner Daniel Keane. “She finds out what you really need and then finds a massage solution.”

Secily Thimsen works her magic on a passerby at our booth at a recent Burien Farmers Market.

  1. HUGE apology to Secily for accidentally misspelling her last name (since corrected)!

    Oops,
