Want an Off-Leash Dog Park? Bring Your Pooch to Monday’s City Council Meeting

This could be the scene at the Oct. 1 Burien City Council meeting.

‘B-Town DOG’ (such a clever name…) is a group of local dog owners that is asking for “as many people and pups as possible to show (the) Burien City Council that there is a large need for an off-leash park in Burien” at the next regular council meeting on Monday, Oct. 1.

“Just come and show your support,” reads an announcement, which encourages people to bring their dogs. “We will be formally asking the council to put the dog park onto the Park’s board 2013 plan.”

As we first reported Aug. 23, Kellie Bassen appears to be the instigator of this group, which is proposing a new off-leash dog park at Hilltop Park, located at 2600 S. 128th Street.

According to their Facebook Page:

“B-Town DOG (B-Town Dog Owner’s Group) is a not for profit group working to more dog city by promoting events and working with the City of Burien to establish the city’s first dog park.”

UPDATE 9/26/12: BTB Reader Kate Barlow writes:

When we attended the Parks Advisory Board meeting on Sept. 12, we were informed that all City Buildings are “dog-friendly.” They, of course, must be on-leash. I believe this information was qualified by the fact that the City Manager takes his dogs to the office with him most days.

Will the council go to the dogs? At the very least, this could make for a very ruff interesting dogfight meeting.

The name actually is B-Town Dog Owners Group or D.O.G. so totally no connection to your blog except for the rhyming! I have a weird sense of humor, but would never mock.

According to the powers that be, all city buildings are dog friendly. We’ve already done a meeting with the Parks Committee with dogs in tow and it was really fun.

Next step, formally ask the council to put it on the 2013 plan. Hoping for a big show of paws!

  2. Jack Block Jr. says:

I’m bringing my pup Bonnie, (CJ is having hip problems), to the meeting. She might have a few comments to make from the dais. Bring treats.

  3. Joe Wills says:

I am for a dog park for our four legged citizens as long as CARES stays out of it
