Burien’s first Mayor, Dr. Arun Jhaveri, will be heading to the World Mayors Council on Climate Change (WMCCC) Conference, to be held in South Korea between Oct. 18 – 24.

“As the former First Mayor of the new sustainable City of Burien, and a New Member of the WMCCC, I am eagerly looking forward to my small but hopefully effective contribution at the subject exciting event, based on my many years of professional work experience and expertise in the fields of energy, environment, sustainability, global climate change, and urban governance,” Jhaveri said via email.

Dr. Jhaveri was the first Mayor of the then-new City of Burien, which he helped make “sustainable.” He is also the former Regional Manager of the Department of Energy in Seattle, as well as a Senior Energy Adviser/Consultant & Certified Sustainable Development Professional. In 2009 he Co-Authored a book entitled “Carbon Reduction: Policies, Strategies, and Technologies.”

Jhaveri will also actively participate in the Post-Kyoto Global Climate Change Treaty Protocol deliberations for recommendation to the United Nations Ministerial Negotiations in Doha, Qatar, later this year, when the current Kyoto treaty expires.

Arun was so kind to provide me with a copy of his book. This work is a remarkable tool for understanding and applying carbon reduction and sustainability to all aspects of common living from windows to travel. I recommend it! I also think it is a privilege for all of us to have one of the leading experts in the world representing our town.
