Highline High School Senior Erin Kitano Named ‘Athlete of the Week’
Last Friday, Highline High Senior Erin Kitano was announced as the winner of the Seahawks/CenturyLink Q13 Fox “Athlete of the Week.”
Erin will be honored at this Sunday’s Seahawks game at CenturyLink Field, as well as at the Nov. 7 Highline School District School Board meeting.
This program honors one high school athlete from the whole state of Washington every Friday. Students are selected and recognized for their athletic performance and their commitment to the classroom and community. Erin was recognized at Highline High on Friday with a whole school assembly with representatives from Century Link and the Seahawks in attendance. Her school received $1000 for the ASB fund and Erin was gifted with a personalized football, a customized Nike Seahawks jersey, a letterman’s patch and two tickets to the November 4th game. She will be recognized at the game on the field and has sideline passes.
“Erin is an amazing student, athlete and person,” said her proud Mom, Carol Kitano. “She has always excelled in school, taking honors classes since first grade and AP classes throughout her high school years. She began swimming competitively at age 8, year round. At Highline High School she has been one of the team captains the past two years and was rookie of the year her freshman year. She has gone to districts for the past three years on relay teams and this year will also compete in the 200 backstroke, her specialty.”
Erin has also been in the honor society and has attended Japanese Language School for the past 12 years (getting up EARLY every Saturday, according to her Mom) and is becoming fluent in speaking, reading and writing the language. She also volunteers at Tukwila Elementary School with special needs students and helps teach ski classes each winter at the Rokka Ski School.
“She has had some medical challenges in her life that she has had to deal with, but despite that, it has not affected her spirit or effort she puts into all of her daily activities, responsibilities and relationships with others,” her Mom said.
Everyone here at The B-Town Blog sends out a huge “Way to go Erin!” shout-out to Erin and her family!
