UPDATE: It looks like Burien’s proposed annexation of White Center will be soundly defeated, as the second round of results released by King County Elections on Wednesday afternoon (Nov. 7) show it losing by nearly 29%, with around 63% of votes tallied countywide.

  • For annexation: 1,278 • 35.73%
  • Against annexation: 2,298 • 64.26%

The election will be certified Nov. 27.

The best news about this measure failing is that we won’t have to see warring campaign signs like these anymore. Photo by Scott Schaefer.

JUST ONE THOUGHT BEFORE EVERYONE MOVES ON FROM THIS ELECTION, THE PRO ANNEXATION SIGN IN THE PICTURE SHOWS AN ENDORSEMENT BY THE FIREFIGHTERS.

THE SIGN DOES NOT CONTAIN THE STATE LAW REQUIRED SPONSOR – “PAID FOR BY” . IF THIS IS A SOMEWHAT ILLEGAL SIGN WHY DID THE FIREFIGHTERS CONTINUE TO ENDORSE THAT GROUP? THE FIREFIGHTERS HAVE FOR YEARS BEEN INVOLVED WITH ENDORSEMENT OF CANDIDATES AND THE LIKE. THEY MUST BE AWARE OF WHAT THE POLITICAL SIGN REQUIREMENTS, SO WHY SUPPORT A LEGALLY QUESTIONABLE SIGN MOVEMENT?

My understanding Chuck and our research confirmed that the fire fighters did not endorse the Pro Annexation agenda and that sign in fact was misinformation.

Your research, Mr Poitras is incorrect. The North Highline firefighters did endorse annexation. And the pro-annexation signs were legal, per the PDC guidelines. Good luck to North Highline citizens when they’re annexed by Seattle.

    Hey clingan,
You must be too embarrassed to answer my question about the PAC:

clingan, If what you said is true, “None of us are embarrassed to be publicly named”
then why file to use mini-reporting in June 2012? Why lie? Why hide it clingan?

You guys got your hats handed to you for being dishonest and lost the election. Next time try honesty, it is the best policy. Good luck trying to rebuild your credibility.

Hi, Area Y Mike, why all the hostility? There is no embarrassment for having supported the pro-annexation side. We used the Mini-Reporting method for our campaign because we didn’t intend to spend over $5000 or take individual contributions of over $500. This is an approved method of reporting per the PDC guidelines. You might want to read the guidelines sometime.

Yes, we lost the election. But there was no intention to lie or hide information and my guess is our method of filing with the PDC was hardly the issue. I believe the citizens of North Highline think they can stay unincorporated, which they may be able to do for another few years.

These chats we have are so much fun. I can’t wait for your response.

      Mr. Clingan,

It may be an approved method of reporting but, very unusual that you would change. If there was no intention on lying or hiding, then why change to the mini reporting Jim? Why not be upfront about reporting who is contributing?

I think all the misinformation and failure to disclose that council members, many Burien politicians/employees and NHUAC members were involved in supporting annexation proved to be fatal.

BTW, no hostility. Just having fun bringing the skeleton’s out of the Burien politicians closets.

This committee, People for Burien didn’t change how it reports to the PDC. If you do some research, before making accusations, you’ll find we reported the same way for the 2009 annexation. You’ll find we did NOT change our reporting method. As for the reason for the election outcome, think what you will. But before you shoot your mouth off and make accusations, maybe it would be good to know what you’re talking about.

        Enjoy Seattle!

  7. Barbara Dobkin says:

Poitras, why not call the North Highline Firefighters and ask about their support, and then post your findings -you are well aware of their financial contribution to People4Burien, why not post that information, and please contact the PDC about the signs and post what they tell you, and while you are at it, ask Chestine Edgar to post the letter she received from the PDC withdrawing the complaint against NHUAC, oh and then you might want to ask Wagner why she could not answer a simple question and provide information about supposed people she claims I met with. Oh and one more thing, didn’t Wagner and Edgar use mini reporting when they ran for council seats? Before you answer with one of your rants, maybe get the facts, and provide the answers
like a respectable adult instead of a prepubescent school yard bully.

    • John Poitras says:

You LOST Dobkin! GET OVER IT!

Your little UNREPRESENTATIVE group proved itself exactly that.. You do not represent white center and never have. You run the UAC like a private clique >>> how many people voted for you besides a few relatives and friends..? You and your nasty snarling pack of propagandists have become IRRELEVANT…

Yes we did talk to the CHIEF… and We did talk to the Firefighters and their CHIEF … the did NOT support annexation .. your support came from the UNION bosses who were worried about the shortfall in the pensions that have to be funded from somewhere.. so why not the taxpayers of Burien? So you are spreading misinformation as usual..
Why don’t YOU post the letter from the PDC you say withdrew the complaint that you originally claimed never existed in the first place..Oh what a tangled web you weave Barbara…
Thank god we won’t have to listen to your whining at Burien city council meetings anymore because now annexation has gone down in flames despite all your pandering you no longer have any relevance there.
