A group called ‘No One Left Behind‘ will be holding a fundraiser from Noon – 4 p.m. this Saturday (Nov. 10) at the Kent Lowe’s Store, to help raise money to re-build a deck with a wheelchair ramp for a disabled couple.

They’ll be BBQING Hotdogs, Veggiedogs as well as serving chips, soda and water, all to raise money for Glenn and Sharon, the couple in need.

“Come join the fun, have some lunch, and meet Glenn and Sharon,” reads an announcement. “We will be selling lunch, collecting cash and Lowes gift card donations, and collecting physical building materials. We will also have a sign up sheet to help on the build day, November 17th.”

The Kent Lowe’s Store is located at 24050 Pacific Highway South; (206) 651-9036.

Here’s more info from the event’s Facebook Page:

The Back Deck on Glenn and Sharon’s home Rotted and had to be torn down for safety and being on fixed income they have not been able to come up with the money to build a new one yet. It is imperative to build this deck because the door is not at ground level so the wheelchairs can not get out this door in case of emergency.

No One Left Behind hopes to help raise the funds needed to build a new 8×8 deck with wheelchair ramp to connect to the existing walkway. Glenn and Sharon do have a ramp on the front of the house, but it is very important to have a second accessible exit in case of emergency. We hope to collect funds for materials including cash through GoFundMe and or Lowes gift cards, as well as Recruiting volunteers to come build, and refreshments on build day (Build date TBD).

Glenn and Sharon are well known in there local community, anywhere you go in Des Moines or Burien you can probably find someone who knows “That couple driving around town in the 2 red wheel chairs”.

Sharon was a long time checker at Safeway in Ballard for 25 years and touched many lives there before she suffered an Aneurysm rupture in her brain in 1996. The aneurysm left her paralyzed on her right side and caused expressive Ephesian which means she knows what she is trying to say and her brain is processing it correctly – but it comes out of her mouth incorrectly.

Glenn has been a staple in the community Attending Highline CC, Working at Davidson and associates in Downtown Des Moines, and delivering Pizza for a number of years. When Sharon had her Aneurysm Glenn stopped working and has been caring for Sharon ever since. 4 years ago Glenn suffered a Stroke and has also developed sever peripheral neuropathy causing him to also be in a wheelchair when he is going to be leaving the house or on his feet for long periods.

Glenn and Sharon have the support of there family and they all work together to keep everything running smoothly.

If any extra funds are earned above the coast of the deck they will be used for repairs to the front deck, new linoleum in the kitchen and bath or to build new stilted raised bed gardens for Glenn and Sharon as they both love to garden but can no longer get down to the ground.

We are seeking volunteers to assist during the event as well as donors to assist with costs of putting on the even such as flyer printing and paper plates and food. Please let us know if you are able to help.

We will gladly list donors and volunteers as official sponsors of the event.
