Shooting in Normandy Park Thursday Afternoon Puts Church into Lockdown
Normandy Park Police say a shooting Thursday afternoon resulted in the closing of SW Normandy Park Road and a lockdown of John Knox Presbyterian Church.
According to Police Chief Chris Gaddis, the shooting happened between 2:30 – 3 p.m. in the 100 block of SW Normandy Park Road near the church and QFC store (map below).
“At this time we don’t believe anyone was hit,” Gaddis told us. “But the victim fled the scene after running through the church parking lot. The suspect also fled, heading west on SW Normandy Road towards the Royal Arms Villa Apartments. He was seen leaving in a green SUV.”
Gaddis later added this to the Normandy Park Police Chief Facebook Page:
“Two black males were involved in a fight and one of the males fired a shot at the other as the victim was running away.
The black male shooter fled the scene in a green Ford Explorer type vehicle.
The victim has not been identified.
There are no known injuries.”
One shellcasing was found on the road, and the King County Sheriff’s Guardian One chopper, as well as officers, assisted in the search.
Neither the victim nor the suspected shooter have yet to be found, although police have an idea who might be involved.
No motive is yet known, and police did not release a description of the still-missing suspect or victim.
This investigation is ongoing. Any person with information about this shooting are encouraged to call the Normandy Park Police Department at 206-248-7600.
