Highline Schools Foundation Reaching Out to Help Victims of Monday’s Fire
Our friends at the Highline Schools Foundation are trying to help some of the victims from Monday’s Tra-Lee apartment fire – many of whom are students at Highline Public Schools – and posted the following on their Facebook page Thursday:
The following email was sent to us from one our of Trustees: Isuzu Niizuma the Family Liaison at Hazel Valley Elementary is looking for help for the students and the families who were affected by this weeks fire. Here’s what she has to say “I was at the shelter today where families who were displaced due to the fire are temporarily staying or just spending the day (some of them were able to find another place to sleep, but they come to the shelter to eat and stay warm) We have been in constant communication with parents since yesterday, and we have a total of 15 students that we confirmed were evacuated, and they don’t know for sure how much of their stuff is gone.
The Red Cross is doing a really great job providing shelter and food, but our families have other immediate needs. Here is a list of stuff you can donate:
PERSONAL CARE: Toothbrush & Toothpaste, Shampoo, Lotion, Deodorant, Feminine supplies, Hand sanitizer, Toilet paper, Soap, Tissues, Laundry soap, Medicine (ibuprofen and cold pills)
CLOTHING & MISC: Underwear and socks for kids and adults various sizes – This is a big one, Hats and gloves, Towels, Toys for children (small and they don’t make a lot o f noise), Games and cards (they don’t have a tv at the shelter)
SPECIFIC REQUESTS: Diapers size 4 and baby wipes, Clothes size 5 for a boy, Clothes for an 11 year boy, Women clothes sizes M, and L, Men clothes – sweatshirts, t shirts, sweaters various sizes
FOOD: (They can’t cook at the shelter so please don’t bring items that required preparation or refrigeration) – Snacks (crackers, cookies, granola bars, chips, gum), Gatorade, juice, water, Instant noodles (the ones that are in a container/cup)
*We are not taking cash donations at this moment, but we will let you know when we are ready to collect it. Later on, once they relocate, they will have a different set of needs, but we will deal with that when it comes. Thank you for your generosity.
