We were first to post a story about Discover Burien Executive Director Gina Bourdage’s missing pit bull ‘G’ (see that here ), which was found safe last Friday, Feb. 1, and now we’d like to share her story about how he was found:
I want to thank everyone who helped us in the search for our dog, who is lovingly known as Sweet G by hundreds of followers online. G’s return can be accredited to a combination of efforts from social media, concerned family, friends and kind strangers, the B-Town Blog, Three Retrievers Pet Rescue, (http://www.3retrievers.com/ ) a Pet Amber Alert ( http://www.petamberalert.com/ ), Comedian Rebecca Cory (https://www.facebook.com/
rebecca.corry.5?fref=ts ) and being featured on King 5 Evening news (story here http://www.king5.com/news/ local/Robo-calls-for-missing- dog–189481951.html ), Puget Sound Energy and many others.
Just before the story aired on KONG TV at 10 PM we made a call to a local sports bar Good Time Ernie’s and asked that they play the story for their patrons. The thought behind this was to get the attention of a large group of people in the area, and our methods had already been out of the box by this point so one more unconventional method couldn’t hurt. The owner Paul gladly agreed and we later discovered he tuned not one but all of his many TV’s to the news, quieted the music, and posted immediately to their Facebook Page (https://www.facebook.com/
goodtime.ernies?fref=ts ) for their followers to watch as well. As soon as story ended we received a call, yes only one call, from a very kind woman who said she had seen “an obviously sweet and beautiful pitbull on her way to work around 1:30 on Friday February 1st near South 133rd one block from Pacific Highway in Tukwila”. She gave us her full address and hoped we would find him soon. We thought that location was a bit far so skepticism lingered that we would find him there. Within minutes we received a Facebook update from the posting Good Time Ernie’s shared. A follower of their page had seen G five minutes earlier, and gave a location two blocks from the Tukwila woman’s sighting. We grabbed our keys, called on my parents giving them the location of the most recent sighting and all of us took off to search for G. We reached the sighting intersection and jumped out of the truck and spread out frantically searching while two additional cars drove the area slowly and calling his name. Within minutes a happy and collarless G came from a dark area of the street wagging his tail and crying with excitement to my Fiancé Jack. We got him in the truck and took him home and haven’t let go of him since. We have a number of different theories as to what exactly happened to G all week, but the only important thing is that he is home happy and healthy.
We are all very exhausted from the excitement, taking down posters and visiting with people that had done so much for a family they’ve never met. I’ve been back-tracking to all the websites and organizations I notified of G going missing to let them know he was found. To avoid this situation in the future, we have purchased a Tagg Pet Tracker (http://www.pettracker.com/ ) GPS device which sends an alert and exact location to our phones and email should he ever leave a designated zone around our home. Also, G has an appointment with his veterinarian and we intend to have him altered to prevent health problems of any kind or “cruising for ladies” in the future.
We are very lucky to have our Sweet G home again and humbled by the overwhelming outpouring of support for his return. There were so many people and resources that we used that we are putting together an online resource for pet owners before their furry loved ones get lost and key things they can do should their pet go missing. We will post to G’s Facebook page as soon as we have the information available. ( https://www.facebook.com/

The media was a huge factor for us and we are grateful to Zahid at King 5 TV for following The B-Town Blog and picking up the mixed reaction we had with the Pet Amber Alert service and to Scott Schaefer who posted immediately after G went missing. Even those who disagreed with the call they may have received played a key role in bringing G home to us, and to them as much as everyone else we are grateful.
Here are some pics of ‘G’ taken shortly after he was found:
