[EDITOR’S NOTE: The following is a Letter to the Editor, written by a Reader:]

Wow! What a great event! We have received so many compliments on the festival. The Highline Classic Jazz Festival is really coming to life in its new venue.

For those of you who have attended all five years, you know that this is true. It is feeling much more like a festival/party and less like just an event to observe. The festival gets its life from you and the performers.  Your participation, enthusiasm and attention to detail make the festival possible. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping to make our dream come true, a dream of a tribute to the music of the first half of the twentieth century.

“I don’t know how they did it, but the Highline Classic Jazz Festival has graduated from a small show to a full fledged, highly professional jazz festival while retaining the ‘comfortable as an old shoe’ feeling of a friendly neighborhood event. Remarkable! The Landmark in Des Moines is one of the most dramatic event centers in the Northwest and the lineup of musicians was stellar. Casey McGill’s big band closed out the program and brought the sound and spirit of Duke Ellington to the dance floor. I’m already looking for the right vintage necktie for next year!”

We would really appreciate hearing from you with any tips for HCJF 2014.

Sincerely,
Laurie and Lance Haslund and the Burien Arts Association
