B-TOWN BIZ: Staples Will Demolish & Move into Old Keg Restaurant Location

The City of Burien is reporting in its most recent newsletter (download PDF here) that Staples has been issued a demolition permit for the former Piranha Joe’s/Keg Restaurant location at 180 SW 148th Street (map below).

Staples will be moving from its current location in Burien Town Plaza, and plans to renovate the former Fashion Bug building and construct a new building at the Keg Restaurant site for a total 15,580 square foot retail store at the site.

As we’ve previously reported, LA Fitness has applied for a demolition permit for interior work at the former Saars Marketplace at 14905 4th Ave SW in Burien Town Plaza.

LA Fitness plans to also take over the current Staples building and open its Burien location by the end of 2013.

No word yet on when Staples will open in its new spot, but we hope everything goes so smoothly that they end up saying “that was easy.”

Yay! It’s about time that Burien is getting a real gym opening in the area! I’ve been seeing so much building potential and wondering why we don’t have a 24Hr Fitness or LA Fitness opening up. Not sure what is happening to All Star Fitness on Delridge since they are under new ownership now.
It’s nice to see Burien continue to grow and provide some decent retail for its inhabitants. Now if we can just get a Whole Foods store to open we’ll be set! Lol!

Bad move for Staples. That Safeway parking lot is awful. I rarely go to any of the stores there for these reasons:

    1. Major shortage of parking spaces.
    2. Constant crime. Drug deals, aggressive panhandlers, car prowling, pet theft from cars, vandalism, shoplifting, assault.
    3. Congested parking lot is very difficult to drive through.
    4. Heavy traffic makes getting in and out of parking space difficult.
    5. No left turn entrance from 1st Ave.
